Every so often we find a really good little place that does not pretend to haute cuisine but does really well what it is trying to do. In the case of the "Side Door Cafe", they want to offer good, clean, well made lunch and dessert crepes, meal panini, the best espresso for miles and also hosts a fine wine bar at the other end of this small, narrow establishment not to mention great beers.
So this is for those want enjoyable, light meals that taste great that in the summer months can be eaten outside under market umbrellas or in the winter squeezed inside or, for those warmly dressed and love to eat outside regardless of weather. We bring this to you since restaurants are closing at a surprising rate in Mammoth leaving a sprinkling of high end restaurants, mostly indifferent mid range restaurants and some pretty dreary low end fast food outlets to choose from.

CREPES:
It is unusual for find anyone making good crepes of any kind, let alone "meal" crepes such as you can find in Normandy and Brittany but with an Italian flair. For those not familiar with Crepes, it is the name the French word for paper-thin pancakes which are versatile & healthy. They can be eaten by hand or as a full meal anytime of the day. Savored for centuries, crepes are celebrating a revival. Their selection of "meal" crepes range from CHAMONIX - Sliced Black Forest Ham, Melted French Brie Cheese, Sliced Ripe Tomatoes & Fresh Baby Spinach, Aioli and CLIMAX - Black Forest ham, Crimini Mushrooms, Bechamel Sauce to CHINA BOWL - Bay Shrimp Chilled & Tossed In a Tangy Lemon Aioli & Fresh Baby Spinach and QUICKSILVER - grilled chicken breast, tomato, goat cheese with pesto (above).
Dessert Creps range from the all time standard enjoyed all over France SUZETTE - A Bed of Orange Sauce Splashed w/ Grand Marnier Liqueur, Whipped Cream topped (just below) to ROLLER COASTER - Nutella Spread, Fresh Strawberries, Topped with Powder Sugar and DRAGON'S BACK - Sliced Strawberries, Lemon juice Topped W/ Whipped Cream and more.

Their Paninis are served hot on daily baked foccacia bread range from SIDE DOOR CAPRESE - Sliced Tomato, Fresh Mozzarella, & Basil Pesto Drizzled with Extra-Virgin Olive Oil, add Layers of Imported Italian Prosciutto Ham - SMOKED TURKEY - Layers of Oven Roasted Smoked Turkey Provolone Cheese, Sliced Tomato, & Cranberry Aioli Or made with Imported Brie Cheese - GRILLED CHICKEN PESTO - Sliced Grilled Chicken Breast, Fresh Basil Pesto, Tomato Topped with imported Goat Cheese - MADDIE'S VEGGIE - Roasted Peppers, French Brie Cheese, Basil Pesto Tomato, Cranberry Aioli, Baby Spinach - DI PARMA - Thinly sliced imported Italian prosciutto, french Brie and Pesto - SIDE DOOR VEGETARIAN - Roasted Red Pepper, Artichoke Hearts, Red Onion, Tomatoes, Fresh Basil, Drizzled with our White Balsamic Vinaigrette and more.
They are also open for breakfast with their "Sunrise Specials". Most are an egg or two on their Savory Crepes but they also offer Granola & Milk and with yogurt and strawberries, but they also offer Bagel & Lox or a Breakfast Bagel with egg, bacon or sausage and Swiss cheese or just a large Fruit Bowl and, of course, their incredible coffee
This is a great place to pick up panini sandwiches to take skiing with you or a hike in the mountains.
The Side Door Cafe is located in the upper part of Mammoth. Just keep going up the hill on the main road into town past the stores on the left and the gas stations and motels on the right until you come to the traffic lights. Turn right and yo will see the new "Village" with condos, shops, the cable car etc. with indoor parking (limited) underneath. The Side Door is right opposite the cable car at the main entrance.
