Pascucci, 729 State Street

A Great and Tasty Value For Money

Peter and Linda D'Aprix 2000

On State Street, just around the corner from Nuevo Paseo, Restaurant Pascucci is not unlike "La Tiramisu" in its atmosphere but has tables on the side walk of State Street instead of within Nuevo Paseo. Unlike Tiramisu, the outside table space is small and cramped, but offers an equally good people watching opportunity with the added benefit of vehicle spotting.

Wonderful rustic, country vegetable soup.

The interior of Pascucci seems to go on for ever, one room leading to another all with skylights and warm colored stucco walls.

The interior of the restaurant just seems to go on forever, evolving deeper into the building ending in a delightful inner sanctum of sky lights and a colonnade offering a lower level of light and more intimacy. The wall are a warm earthtone stucco even on a gray rainy day.

Interior fresco

The food is reasonable and quite good. I enjoyed a quite acceptable risotto while Linda had an excellent Turino- Grilled boneless chicken breast with goat cheese, roasted sweet red peppers and olive pesto. Their menu is filled with Antipasti, soups and salads, enough pizzas to keep me coming back many times for testing purposes, panini, quite a selection of pastas and full sized main dishes from large tiger shrimp stuffed with pesto, wrapped with prosciutto and grilled to several fish and chicken courses as well as a very fine grilled vegetable plate with eggplant, zucchini, yellow squash, tri-colore peppers, red onion, mushrooms, with spicy tomato, artichoke and caper marinara sauce served with spinach fettuccine - not bad for $5.75. Add a dollar if you are having the plate for dinner as opposed to lunch.

This brings us to the prices. They are very reasonable especially considering the quality of the ingredients and the interesting dishes. This is definitely a restaurant to put on your list for everyday fare.
