Two comfortable inns in different styles quiet but close to town.

The Horizon Inn and Ocean View Lodge are a wonderful find for both families and travelers with and without pets. Just four blocks (walking distance from the center of town) off Ocean at Junipero St. and 3rd Ave, these two inns, although completely different in style, are owned by the same family and are both comfortable, quiet and close to activities and yet just far enough removed for peace and quiet. The two inns face each other across the street from each other.
The Horizon Inn, where you find the reception for both inns, offers some more upscale rooms, decorated in an attractive fashion with pine armoirs, comfy chairs and many with terraces. The style is California stucco. The Horison Inn has an outdoor jacuzzi fenced patio. The Horison Inn does not accept pets.

Across the street, the Ocean View Lodge, our pet friendly destination this visit, was homey with a "worn around the edges" country cottage feeling. It is comfortable and extremely pleasant with hand quilted bed spreads, over stuffed couches and arm chairs, fire places and some even have a separate bedroom, dining area and kitchen. Ours was actually a small apartment with old fashioned kitchen which came in very handy in preparing the "gourmet meals " our Small shiz Tsu expects. It is also happily right next door to a park where Doogie eagerly explored every nook and cranny every morning and evening while we enjoyed the view over the sea from the upper pathways.

In the morning one has only to look outside your door to find the newspaper and a welcome basket of juice, granola and pastries or bagels. Even the packets of coffee for the coffee maker were excellent. Carmel is such a pleasure to visit not only for its natural beauty and charm but because it is so completely doggie friendly. The always adorable Doris Day settled there years ago and helped to foster the pet-caring enviorment that exists today.The Horizon Inn does not allow pets and has recently redorated a number of its rooms in cheerful fabrics and many complete with jacuzzi tubs which happily beckon after a day of shopping and sightseeing. There are lovely views of the ocean from many of the rooms and the entire premises is smoke free. If a visit to Carmel,California is in your future , The Horizon Inn and Ocean View Lodge are very good choices.
